Larry Ruud, CEO

Welcome to the One Earth Farms website, and thank you for spending time to learn about our company. I am very proud of the accomplishments of our farm and our partners.

In three short years, we are on track to move from conceptual vision to becoming the largest cropping and ranching operation in Canada. One Earth Farms has assembled an industry leading team: in 2011 we will have more than 200 employees during the busiest part of the season. We have set aggressive growth plans and—with the support of excellent shareholders, a strong team, great partners and an innovative approach to a centuries-old business—we are on target to achieve and surpass our goals.

Our business model is focused on six key pillars: establishing the scale necessary to achieve enhanced and sustainable margins; geographic diversification to mitigate weather risk and enhance crop diversity; professional management to gain efficiencies and to strict protocols; environmental responsibility, as we have only one Mother Earth; a focus on meeting the needs of consumers; and establishing great partnerships.

We couldn’t achieve our objectives without great partnerships. Our focus on building strong relationships with the First Nations and our leadership in employment and training opportunities are creating new jobs and long-term careers. Additionally, we are creating strong, positive relationships with strategic businesses in the value chain. This is allowing One Earth Farms and these strategic businesses to better plan for the future and to be more aligned with each other’s needs. Finally, a strong awareness of our consumers and respect for their interests motivates us to enhance confidence that food produced by One Earth Farms is healthy, safe and traceable to its source. We are consumers too, and it is important to us that we have confidence in the food that we feed our families.

I firmly believe that agriculture is a great industry, full of opportunities for companies and people. Yet it is not without challenges. Weather, uncertain markets and government policy all have an impact on our business. The business model we have established factors in these risks and will evolve as necessary into the future.

Managing these evolving challenges and creating opportunities are all part of the excitement of being in this industry. I grew up on a farm, managed my own farm and have worked in other areas of this great industry. I can’t think of a better place to start and establish a career or business.

Our team is excited about creating change in a centuries-old industry and applying knowledge, skill and technology from the agriculture industry as well as other industries. Through the use of leading-edge technology and sound management concepts, One Earth Farms is putting these pieces together to meet the needs of its stakeholders.

As the world’s population expands and diets evolve, the need for an ever-shrinking area of land to produce a greater amount of food is growing. One Earth Farms has the right approach, the right technology, the right partners and the right team to meet this challenge head on.

Truly, together, we are Growing a Tomorrow.

Sincerely,
Larry Ruud
